This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-moving entrepreneurial team currently exploring the edges of possibility! We move with speed and purpose, taking calculated risks and failing fast – all with one goal in mind: serving consumers in new and unimagined ways. In support of that mission, we are seeking an Insights Director to lead our Design Studio team through human centered design (HCD) practices and partner with our new businesses to ensure the consumer is always at the center of everything we do.

The Role

You will own the research and experimentation design across all of Valiant Labs. Offering best-in-class research practices, you will set a strategic research approach, conduct consumer interviews, synthesize insights and translate these findings to catalyze design and strategic decisions for Entrepreneurs and their future businesses.

Being highly collaborative in nature, working with new ventures to build impactful designs, you will help discover powerful stories and new digital services that help to shape the future of Nike’s business. Alongside a mentor and Research Coordinator, and with the guidance from the Head of Design Studio, you will define how HCD research practices exists interdependently within Valiant Labs and set the vision for its future.

Leading with HCD qualitative research but able to lean into quantitative methodology you bring a strong ability to scope a research process, gather insights from secondary research, lead fieldwork, and conduct in-context interviews and observation. You will be a through-line of consumer knowledge, trends and past research, and a primary source for what’s new, what’s old, and what’s exciting.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the voice of the consumer
  • Draw from a variety of research methods-interviews, observation, diary studies, prototyping, surveys, user testing, and experiments-at different stages of the process: to inspire early design work, inform the initial opportunity, collect formative feedback to support iteration, and validate a go-to-market solution
  • Celebrate and execute low-fidelity prototyping and UX research approaches
  • Work with Entrepreneurs and the multidisciplinary Studio team across diverse projects, manage multiple work streams, advise on research methodologies, and proactively do what is necessary to steward excellent outcomes
  • Help define timelines, facilitate progress, and ensure all projects successfully reach their goals
  • Build positive relationships with Entrepreneurs, communicating on project status, risks, and resourcing updates
  • Inspire and encourage teams in their use of new methods to push their thinking and leading with action
