We’re looking for a Senior Innovation Engineer (specializing in mechatronics) to help create the future of sport.

This role dreams the future of sport and makes it a reality by demonstrating what is possible through application of mechatronics engineering.

This role requires an individual who has demonstrated skills in overcoming significant engineering challenges or notable examples of meaningful innovation in their career to date. The Just Do It nature of the job requires a highly creative and competent engineer; someone who is excited by trying new things and energized from learning through iteration.

As a Senior Innovation Engineer on the NXT Explore Engineering team, you will collaborate with a select group of Nike’s most talented engineers, to explore the limits of what is possible when electromechanical solutions are applied towards improving athletic performance. This is an exploration innovation team, working at the furthest edge of the innovation spectrum; striving to make big leaps in what is actually possible. You will be partnering directly with the Nike Sport Research Lab, the Nike Smart Systems Engineering team, and operate from within Nike’s Space Kitchen.

This role will collaborate with mechanical engineering, software engineering, as well as other engineers and scientists to help shape the engineering innovation portfolio. This individual will be the subject matter expert (SME) on Mechatronics technologies for the Explore Engineering team. If you are a self-starter, if you are comfortable in and able to create opportunity from highly ambiguous environments, and if you are willing to take high but informed risk, this job is for you.

- Masters or Bachelor’s degree in mechatronic or electrical engineering or closely related technical field.

- Minimum 7 years of work experience in mechatronic or electrical design engineering.

- Works with engineers, designers, innovators, and sport scientists, to realize design of electro-mechanical and connected systems.

- Function as a mechatronics engineering SME and resource across teams; using concept sketches, engineering design/ideas, and other communication methods to assure clear understanding of technological capabilities and limitations, and providing rationale and recommendations for technical and market relevant product decisions.

- Creates specifications and quotation documentation in order to lead external professional services firms (domestic and international) and component vendors to create prototypes and generate proof-of-concepts, with an eye towards commercialization at scale.

- Must possess a high-level understanding of engineering technical subject areas, including mechanical, electrical, firmware, control systems, and software engineering.

- Experience in PCB design and layout

- Strong understanding of embedded firmware architecture and system design.

- Must be well versed in low-power electrical system design.

- Experience with multiple programming languages like Python, C/C++, Java, etc.

- Experience with microcontrollers, sensors, and protocols: I2C, SPI, UART, etc.

- Experience prototyping with Arduino, MBED, and other development boards.

- Experience with MATLAB is a plus.

- Ability to move concepts quickly and efficiently especially by creating quick strike prototypes

- Must be able to efficiently manage numerous projects simultaneously.

- Excellent creativity, communication, presentation, troubleshooting, time-management, and analytical skills are required.
