Who are we looking for

Nike has embraced big data technologies to enable data-driven decisions. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to keep pace with Taxonomy, Ontology, and Consumer Data. As a Software Engineer, you would work with a variety of hardworking Nike teammates and be a driving force for building first-class solutions for Enterprise Data and Analytics working on development projects creating scalable APIs to serve and share Taxonomy data throughout Nike. The ideal candidate will have experience creating scalable APIs, exposure to graph databases, comfortable with ambiguity, and will enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

In this role, you will work on Nike’s taxonomy data with other software engineers, product owners, business analysts, architects, data consumers, and stakeholders. We are an agile DevOps team and searching for a motivated person to foster growth in the group and business. We are a growing team with work that has the potential to impact the whole organization.

You will collaborate with engineering, product management, and business partner teams daily to enable scalable APIs and data access patterns for internal taxonomy data.


  • Design, build and maintain scalable APIs related to Nike’s product ontology and taxonomy data.
  • Evaluate and migrate to newer tools such as Kubernetes and Lambda functions
  • Bring to bear your knowledge and unique perspective to provide technical leadership to take projects from zero to completion
  • Research, evaluate and utilize new technologies, tools, frameworks centered around high-volume data processing while accounting for compliance and user permissions
  • Drive a culture of collaborative reviews of designs, code and test plans
  • Work with architecture engineering leads to ensure quality solutions are implemented and engineering standard methodologies adhered to
  • Utilize and advance continuous integration and deployment frameworks
  • Seek out and understand complex data issues and perform root cause analysis
  • Work across teams to resolve operational & performance issues
  • Identify and remove technical bottlenecks for your engineering squad

What you bring

  • MS/BS in Computer Science, or related technical subject area
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering and or API development
  • Comprehensive experience creating a culture of automation (DevOps)
  • A technical solid software engineering background
  • Passion for scalable API’s
  • Experience with Java, Go, or C++
  • Strong skills in data structures, algorithms, and exposure to GraphQL and or SPARQL, RDF, etc.
  • Proven Ability to influence and communicate effectively with team members and business partners
  • Exposure to Graph databases is a plus (Neo4j, Jena, Neptune, etc.)
  • Exposure to cloud computing and environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Solid experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar
